SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association has launched its #HolidayHeroes social media campaign, running from now through New Year’s Day recognizing officers named by their chiefs for exceptional work in traffic safety and their communities.
“The holiday season is one of the most dangerous times on our roads. As law enforcement leaders, we are relying on our officers to be exceptionally proactive and engaged at this time of year and we want to recognize those who truly step up,” said Colonel Bradford Connor, Chief of the Warwick Police Department and President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association. “Our holiday heroes are focused on keeping our roads and communities safe and we truly appreciate their hard work.”
Connor: Holiday Heroes Recognition Timely
This campaign is timely, as impaired driving and other traffic risks historically rise during the holiday season. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4,759 people lost their lives in alcohol-impaired driving crashes during the December months from 2018 to 2022. In December 2022 alone, 1,062 lives were tragically lost to alcohol-impaired driving.
Rhode Islanders are encouraged to nominate their own Holiday Heroes by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with the officer’s name, department, and a description of why they are being nominated. Nominations can be made now through December 31, 2024.
#HolidayHeroes will be featured on the Association’s social media accounts:
