Pedestrian Struck by Motorist on Post Road, Seriously Injured

The Warwick Police Department is located at 99 Veterans Memorial Drive.

WPD cruiserWarwick, RI – A city man is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital after being struck by a motorist Saturday evening while crossing Post Road on foot.

Warwick Police responded to a car and pedestrian accident in the area of 717 Post Road at 8:49 p.m. Oct. 11, finding the car’s driver,  Katelyn Barnes, 23, of Heath Avenue in Warwick, had struck and injured a 44-year old male pedestrian from Dryden Boulevard in Warwick, according to a WPD release sent to media late Saturday night.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld until his family is notified, according to the release.

Barnes was traveling north on Post Road in the area of Spofford Avenue at the time, and the pedestrian was crossing Post Road moving east when the collision occurred.

Investigators are continuing to interview the driver. Police are also searching for additional witnesses.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the collision. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and due to the time of day, the area was dark with minimal lighting, which may have contributed to the incident, according to the release.

The Warwick Police Department asks anyone with information related to the accident to contact the Traffic Division at (401)468-4293 or (401)468-4343.
