As Officer David Waddington headed to the location, he received word that one of the fighters, a man, was on top of the other, who wasn’t moving. Dispatch added that the man was also dragging the other toward the Jeep.
Officer Ryan Riecke was on the scene when Waddington arrived, already speaking with the victim, who had blood on his shirt and face from the late night fight. The attacker, identified as Kristian Dzilenski, 34, of 348 Brookline Drive, Warwick, RI, was glaring at the victim, and refused when Waddington told him to stop.
The officers read Dzilenski his rights, and asked him what happened, but he refused to say.
The homeowner, who had reported the fight, said he discovered the men and the Jeep on his lawn after being drawn to the noise, which he originally mistook for the television, which he thought his wife had left on. As he walked down his hallway, however, he noticed the headlights on his front lawn. He looked out the window and saw Dzilenski on top of the other man, punching him in the face. He said he called 911, then saw Dzilenski attempt to drag the other man toward the front of the Jeep.
The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Waddington observed a large pool of blood on the grass, as well as the victim’s cell phone, and returned the device to him at the hospital.
Dzilenski was transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where he was placed in a cell, in an “extremely combative” mood according to the officer’s report. Waddington charged him with felony assault and/or battery.
