NWS: Storm Brings High Wind, 60 mph Gusts Today

WARWICK, RI — The National Weather Service warns a storm will bring high wind, gusting up to 60 mph will barrel through the area late this afternoon, with about two inches of rain.

A high wind warning will be in effect for Warwick and surrounding areas from 3 p.m. till 1 a.m. tomorrow, according to the NWS. Central and southern Rhode Island, southeast Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands, and coastal Essex county will be affected. Southerly winds reaching  25 to 35 mph, with gusts between 50 and 60 mph  are expected.

The NWS warns damaging winds could blow down some trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
