WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police are investigating the death of a man killed running into Centerville Road traffic Tuesday night, after two cars struck him.

At 8:14 p.m. Dec.30, Warwick Police and Warwick Rescue responded the area of 926 Centerville Road, near the Marketplace Center shopping plaza, for a report that two cars that had struck a pedestrian, according to a WPD press release.

Police report their initial investigation shows a man ran into Centerville Road from an address on the south side of the road and into the path of a blue Subaru traveling east. A witness driving a car behind the Subaru immediately stopped and activated its hazard lights.

As the first witness’s car stopped, a driver in a yellow Chevy Impala passed the stopped car on the left  and struck the pedestrian, who was still lying in the road.

A second witness, driving a car behind the Impala, immediately stopped in the area of the first witness and activated their hazard lights.

All the vehicles remained on scene, Warwick Police reported.

The pedestrian, Michael Dembkowski, 49, of Warwick, was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital at
9:09 p.m.

The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is still investigating the cause of the collision. Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as contributing factors for the drivers.

All  the drivers involved in the incident are cooperating with the investigation, police report.
