WARWICK, RI — RI troopers arrested a Providence man in a disabled vehicle on Rte. 195 May 21 at 4:15 p.m. on a Warwick Police warrant on embezzlement charges for a stolen Mobil safe drop.
The man had been recorded on video taking the safe drop envelope, reportedly containing $500 cash, while working at the 91 Veterans Memorial Drive Mobil station, according to police records.
Warwick Police Officers took custody of the man, Miguel Angel Cosme Gonzalez, 46, of 115 Silver Lake Ave., Providence, RI, at the RI State Police Lincoln barracks, 1575 old Louisquisset Pike, Lincoln, RI, later that day. Officers took him to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where he was processed and held till his arraignment later that day.
At arraignment in Third District Court, Cosme Gonzalez was charged with Embezzlement and Fraudulent Conversion Greater Than $100. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for an Aug. 18 court screening.
Warwick Police Officer Jordon Guyton responded to the original call for a stolen Mobil safe drop that lead to the warrant on Nov. 21 at 7:27 p.m. at the Mobil station.
Guyton spoke with the manager who reported the theft, who told him he’d spotted Cosme Gonzalez on the security video hiding the drop envelope for his cash drawer, containing $500, under the register during his shift, at about 3 p.m. At 5:45 p.m., he told Guyton, the clerk placed the envelope in his pocket and left the station. The manager said that Cosme Gonzalez had recently told him he would not be returning to work.
Guyton issued a warrant for Cosme Gonzalez’s arrest.
