PROVIDENCE — The National Weather Service (NWS) Winter Weather Advisory warns of icy roads and walks for Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts till 7 p.m. tonight, with closed schools and parking bans announced.

In Warwick, a parking ban was announced by Mayor Frank Picozzin on his Facebook page. Warwick Public Schools were closed, as were the Warwick Boys & Girls Club, Buttonwoods School, and C.H.I.L.D. Inc.

Coventry Public Schools were closed as well, with a town-wide parking ban in place, one of 27 parking bans announced for the day.

The weather service warns of icy road and walking conditions as mixed precipitation is expected through the day, including total snow and sleet accumulations between 1 and 4 inches and ice accumulations creating a light, but treacherous, glaze. The warning is in effect for portions of northern Connecticut, all of Massachusetts east of the Berkshires except for the Cape and islands, and all of Rhode Island, except for Block Island.

The weather service advises slowing down while driving and exercising extra caution while traveling today.
