WARWICK, RI— Tuesday’s wind and rain has caused flooded roads and cancellations, including Warwick Schools for the day, with ongoing flooding expected into Thursday.

Many cities and towns called hours-long delays for schools this morning, including Coventry, which announced a two hour delay for elementary classes and cancelled High School and Middle School classes.

Using that “school’s out” announcement to your advantage will be extra challenging, as flooding on local roads and state highways affect travel through Rhode Island.

“We have flooding on several roads including Route 95 at Thurbers Ave, Route 10 and Route 146 at Sayles Hill Road. Please be alert and seek alternate routes,” RI State Police reported on their Twitter feed.

Warwick Police report West Shore Road, closed earlier due to flooding, is now open for one lane of travel only eastbound and westbound at Wildes Corner.

Bald Hill Rd (RT2) NORTH is closed just before 153 Bald Hill Rd.(Car Max)

The National Weather Service is expected to lift its flood watch for the are at 1 p.m. today. A high wind warning expires at 10 a.m.

Mayor Frank Picozzi noted on his Facebook Page that Fire Chief McMichael, the city’s Emergency Management Director, anticipates continuing severe flooding of Pawtuxet River as a consequence of the storm.

“Currently, the Pawtuxet is expected to be at 14 feet above flood stage early Thursday morning. In comparison, it reached approximately 15.8 ft. on December 18th,” Picozzi quotes McMichael.
