WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police ask the public’s help investigating an early morning fatal roundabout crash on Centerville Road involving a black Nissan Rogue with Tennessee plates that struck the stone wall at the Centerville Road roundabout and caught fire.

Warwick officers were called to the scene at 12:02 a.m., reported as a single car crash in the area of 100 Centerville Road.

Officers attempted to extinguish the blaze and to remove the operator but were unable to immediately gain access. The fire was extinguished by Warwick Fire personnel upon their arrival. The driver and only occupant was a man in his 40s, who was found unconscious. Warwick firefighters removed him, performed CPR and transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital by Warwick Fire Rescue.

The driver, later identified Christopher Armstrong, 43, was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead and his next of kin was notified.

The Warwick Police Traffic Units’ Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and through their initial investigation learned that the Nissan Rogue had been traveling southbound on Greenwich Avenue prior to turning west onto the Centerville Road Extension.

The Nissan continued westbound on the extension to where it left the lane of travel in the vicinity of the Centerville Road roundabout, continued across the two lanes of travel, then jumped the roundabout curbing and struck the wall.
