Coventry Park Upgrades Include Quidnick Field, Giblin Playground

COVENTRY, RI — Quidnick Field/Park and Giblin Playground are among coming Coventry park upgrades, along with Harris Playground, thanks to town capital spending and grants, Town Administrator Dan Parillo announced.

The Quidnick Field project was awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for $495,247, Parillo reported. The statewide competitive CDBG grant process evaluates each project submitted based on merits and benefits to the community.

Quidnick Field upgrades will include a new playground, new basketball court, new lights, and improvements to the parking lot.

Parillo also noted the $100,000 Harris Playground project among 11 local community DEM grants announced by the agency last week, reported Tuesday by Warwick Post.

“These two projects will make a difference in providing our children the ability to get outside in a safe place with new state of the art equipment and facilities,” Parillo said.

Town Capital Funding Approved for Giblin Playground

Parillo said the Coventry Town Council has approved in this year’s 2025 budget a Capital Project for $89,000 to make improvements and replace equipment at the John Giblin Playground located within Hunter’s Crossing.

“This commitment by the Council is an example of their dedication and desire to provide the children of Coventry new space and resources to enjoy the outdoors within their own neighborhoods,” Parillo said, “The award-winning Coventry Parks and Recreation Department goes above and beyond to enhance the lives of all of our residents all year long through their various programming opportunities and all of the events they sponsor from the July 4 celebration, to the Summer Concert series, to the Christmas Light display, and the Spooky walk for Halloween. They continue to make us proud. Please visit their website coventryri.myrec.com or coventryri.gov for all of their upcoming events and list of programs.”
