Warwick, RI — If you’ve traveled through Apponaug lately, chances are that you’ve seen the big red-and-white banner on the side of the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce office.

It’s the Chamber’s real-life promotion of its online ballot to choose the new color for the main office and the Slade’s Ferry Business Center next door.

Chamber President Lauren Slocum explained during a recent phone interview that the organization is in the midst of a fundraiser to cover the estimated $200,000 cost to rehab the two buildings, including new “architectural siding” that is now allowed after the city put so-called “village” zoning in place for the city center.

[The previous historic zoning codes would not have allowed aluminum or vinyl siding.]

“We’re about halfway there,” Slocum said, adding that it typically costs $60,000 to paint the buildings — work that has to be repeated every two to two and a half years because the paint fades and wears out.

Voters have a choice of four colors — Glacier Blend, Cypress, Heritage Cream, and Flagstone — and can choose different colors for each building.

Slocum said the voting will continue through August.

“We’ll see where we land,” said Slocum.

Here’s where to vote for your choice of colors on the Central RI Chamber offices. For more information, contact the Chamber at (401) 732-1100.
