WARWICK, RI — A 50-year-old West Warwick woman faces a DUI charge after an Aug. 6 head-on crash outside Dick’s Sporting Goods at 9:26 p.m. that caused minor injuries to another driver and damage to his car.

Officer Anthony D’Abrosca, called to the location, spoke with one of the drivers at the scene of the crash, a man who said he had been pulling out of the lot at Dick’s Sporting Goods when another car collided with his, approaching from the wrong side of the road with its headlights off, according to the officer’s report.

The second driver, identified as Michel Noel, 50, of 59 East Main St., West Warwick, initially told the officer she had made a wrong turn. Later, Noel admitted to having been drinking earlier in the day at the beach. As she spoke, Noel appeared unsteady on her feet, according to the report.

D’Abrosca asked Noel to perform some sobriety tests, to which she agreed, demonstrating involuntary eye movements and an apparent inability to follow the officer’s instructions. She also broke heel-to-toe cadence during a walk and turn test, and was unable to balance safely on one foot. D’Abrosca arrested her on suspicion of DUI and transported her to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive.

D’Abrosca charged Noel with DUI first offense, blood alcohol unknown, and cited her for refusing a chemical blood test, and for driving without insurance.

The driver of the car Noel struck was complained of a minor injury to his hand, and Rescue personnel treated him with an ice pack. His car was able to leave under its own power.
