Warwick, RI – The Warwick Police Department is warning residents of expected traffic delays Friday morning as the funeral procession for Bristol Police Officer Richard Jean-Georges travels through the city.
Temporary traffic restrictions and intersection closures will be in effect from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday along the procession route from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick to The Christian Hill Community Church, 56 Tiogue Ave., West Warwick.
Roads affected will include Sandy Lane, West Shore Road, Main Avenue, East Avenue and Route 95 south in Warwick, as well as New London Turnpike and Tiogue Avenue in West Warwick and Coventry.
Temporary traffic delays are to be expected and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes or adjust their commuting time to avoid travel during that time.
Ptlm. Jean-Georges, a member of the Bristol Police Department for three years, was on vacation with his family in Costa Rica swimming when he was caught in a rip current June 6, according to the Bristol Police Department’s Facebook page.
A search team recovered his body June 9, according to an update on the page. A team of Bristol officers escorted his body back to Rhode Island.
His funeral will be held Friday, June 19, 2015 at 8 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick with a service at 10 a.m. in the Christian Hill Community Church, 56 Tiogue Avenue, West Warwick. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m.
