Warwick, RI — Perennial challenger John T. Kirby again filed for a run against incumbent Republican Mayor Scott Avedisian, the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s office reported.

Kirby and Avedisian were listed on the 2014 Warwick Candidate Filing web page as candidates who collected 200 signatures in support of their filing by Tuesday afternoon, June 24.

In 2012 and 2010, Avedisian handily defeated Kirby in the mayor’s race. As of February, 2013, Avedisian became the city’s longest-serving mayor.

Also reported on Tuesday, in the races for City Council, Ward 1 Republican incumbent Steven Colantuono and Democratic candidate Donald Fife submitted candidacy papers; Republican Michael Izzo and Independent Harold Ouimette filed to run in Ward 3; Ward 7 incumbent Democrat Councilor Charles Donovan Jr. faces a primary against Kathleen Usler; and Democrat Joseph Gallucci runs against Luelyn Jennings in Ward 8.

Wards 2, 4, 5, 6, and 9 had only one candidate listed as of Tuesday.

The deadline for filing to run in this year’s election is June 25.
