Warwick officers were posted at 1689 Post Road starting at 7 p.m. with the Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit, or B.A.T. Mobile Vehicle, a 40-foot trailer where officers can administer breath tests to suspected drunk drivers.
Local officers and members of Warwick Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association also conducted the Safe Rides program, a free service that picks up anyone who needs a ride or has had too much to drink and brings them to locations within the city.
Police reported the following breakdown of their activity Friday:
Traffic Stops Conducted- 73
Speeding Violations Issued – 11
Laned Roadway Violations Issued – 7
Obedience to Traffic Control Device Violations Issued- 1
Obedience to Stop Sign Violations Issued- 1
Display Of Plates Violations Issued – 1
Suspended License Arrests – 2
Suspected DUI Arrests – 5 ( All of which were Chemical Test Refusals and 4 of the 5 arrests were processed at the BAT Mobile):
- Brian Carpenter, 62, of 44 Fairhaven Ave., Warwick, arrested at the intersection of Harding and Warwick Avenues, charged with DUI, blood alcohol unknown.
- Abby Maccarone, 19, of 25 Sweet Meadow Dr., Warwick, arrested at 2401 West Shore Road, charged with DUI, first offense, blood alcohol unknown.
- Michael Bassett, 42, of Park Avenue, Warwick, arrested at 1125 West Shore Road, charged with DUI, first offense, blood alcohol unknown.
- Linea Totushek, 25, of Dyer Avenue, Cranston, arrested on Rte. 95 near exit 14, charged with DUI, first offense, blood alcohol unknown.
Information on a fifth DUI arrest made that evening was not immediately available.
