WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police are asking the public’s help investigating a fatal crash of three cars near 771 Post Road Saturday afternoon that killed a 61-year-old Cranston man.

Warwick Police  were called to the area in front of Warwick Fire Station 2 at 2:11 p.m., where  rescue personnel, not far, were immediately on scene, according to a news release detailing the collision.

All four occupants of the three cars involved in the crash were injured and all were transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital. Michael Perry, 61, of Cranston, the driver of the Hyundai Kona that crashed into the two other cars, was pronounced dead by Rhode Island Hospital at 2:37 p.m.

Initial fatal crash investigation: Northbound Kona stuck southbound cars

Warwick officers’ initial investigation shows that Jessel Guzman Luna, 32, had been driving her Volvo SUV in the right, southbound lane of Post Road and stopped at the red light at the station.  A Honda Civic driven by Joseph Kemley, 24, with one passenger, had also been traveling Post Road south and stopped directly behind the Volvo.

As the light turned green and the vehicles proceeded, The Kona driven by Perry crossed left of center from the north lane, striking the Volvo head-on, forcing it into the Honda behind it.

The Warwick Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is currently investigating the cause of the crash, including the possibility of a medical episode preceding the collision. Speed could not be immediately determined.

Warwick Police asked anyone that witnessed the crash and can provide any additional information about the collision to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at (401) 468-4200.
