WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police are investigating a fake active-shooter “swatting” report at a Cliff Road home Saturday, Aug. 30, at about 2:48 a.m., claiming shots fired.

The caller claimed that shots had been fired inside the home, resulting in one victim and another individual being held hostage, according to police. Multiple officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, finding no one in the home, police stated in a release about the swatting call.

After a thorough and coordinated response involving patrol officers and detectives, it was determined that the call originated from a voice over internet number and was a false report, commonly referred to as a “swatting” incident.

The residence was cleared, and officers confirmed that no one was inside and that there was no threat to public safety.

Warwick Police report the incident is under active investigation.
