WARWICK, R.I. — Warwick Police arrested a 26-year-old East Greenwich woman on a shoplifting charge at the 650 Bald Hill Walmart Dec. 27 at 12:20 p.m. after she was detained by store security, after she allegedly stole clothing totaling $134.
Officer James Vible met with the Walmart’s loss prevention officer at the store, according to the Vible’s report. The officer told him the woman, Kerri Bestwick, 26, of 40 Primrose Dr., East Greenwich, had placed numerous items of clothing totaling $134.84 in value in her shopping bag, then passed all points of purchase without paying for them, Vible reported.
The loss prevention officer intercepted Bestwick outside the store and escorted her back to the loss prevention office to wait for police, Vible wrote.
Vible said Bestwick offered an apology in the presence of the loss prevention officer, explaining she had taken the clothes because she had just been laid off from work and was on hard times. Vible arrested her, charging her with shoplifting, and transported her to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where she was processed and issued a Third District Court date of Jan. 30.
Vible also notified Bestwick of a no-trespass order against her from Walmart and transported her back to her car in the store’s lot.
