Wind Advisory Issued Through Tuesday Night, Dec. 30

PROVIDENCE, RI — The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the area starting Monday night then lasting through Tuesday night, with gusts as high as 21 – 43 mph.

Following a rainy Monday, nighttime weather is forecast to turn mostly cloudy, then gradually clear up, with a low around 23 degrees. There will also be  a west wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Tuesday will be partly sunny, with a high near 30, and breezy with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, and gusts as high as 43 mph. Later Tuesday night, winds should lose some of their kick,  with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 22. There will also be a west wind at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.

The NWS warns that the gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and some power outages may result. Winds so strong can also make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

The advisory is in effect for Hartford, CT, Tolland, CT, Windham,CT, Central Middlesex MA-Western Essex MA-Eastern Essex MA-Western Norfolk MA-Southeast Middlesex MA-Suffolk MA-Eastern Norfolk MA-Northern Bristol MA-Western Plymouth MA-Eastern Plymouth MA-Southern Bristol MA-Southern Plymouth MA-Barnstable MA-Dukes MA-Nantucket MA-Northwest Providence RI-Southeast Providence RI-Western Kent RI-Eastern Kent RI-Bristol RI-Washington RI-Newport RI and Block Island RI.

The warning includes the cities of Plymouth, Windsor Locks, Boston, Putnam, Provincetown, New Bedford, East Greenwich, Vernon, Lawrence, Chatham, Foxborough, Willimantic, Providence, New Shoreham, Framingham, Mattapoisett, Bristol, Fall River, Gloucester, Newport, Cambridge, Quincy, Vineyard Haven, Warwick, Coventry, West Warwick, Westerly, Hartford, Norwood, West Greenwich, Falmouth, Foster, Narragansett, Smithfield, Lowell, Union, Taunton, Brockton, and Nantucket.
