WARWICK, RI — This week’s Warwick Weekend events include a rise in temperature, likely rain, and two family holiday light displays before year’s end with fireworks.

Warwick Weekend events weather is forecast to climb into the 40s , with rain likely, according to the National Weather Service. Here are some events and happenings to help you decide where you’re spending the weekend:

Warwick Weekend Events New Year’s Eve:

Warwick New Year’s Eve fireworks The Warwick Parks and Recreation Department’s New Year’s Eve celebration and fireworks begins at 3 p.m. this year at Rocky Point Park, Rocky Point Ave., with food trucks, music and giveaways. Warwick Police will have a tent set up and the music will also be broadcast on car radio. Fireworks start at 6 p.m.

Warwick Weekend Events New Year’s Day:

Ugly Sweater Night Greenwood Credit Union City Hall Plaza, 3275 Post Rd, Warwick, RI, will host an Ugly Sweater Night, actually starting at 10 a.m. and running through 5:30 p.m. During each skate session, The Best Ugly sweater will be chosen. The winner will receive 2 free general admissions passes. Skate sessions run:

  • 10 – 11:30 a.m.
  • 12 – 1:30 p.m.
  • 2 – 3:30 p.m.
  • 4 – 5:30 p.m.
  • 6 – 7:30 p.m.
  • 8 – 9:30 p.m.
So put on those old ugly holiday sweaters!

New Year’s Day Hike, Fisherman’s Memorial State Camp For the 10th year in a row, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) invites the public to ring in the New Year with a First Day Hike at Fishermen’s Memorial State Campground in Narragansett Thursday, Jan. 1 anytime from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors.

“What better way to start the New Year than with family and friends at one of Rhode Island’s beautiful properties,” said DEM Director Terry Gray. “In their 10th year, First Day Hikes have become a tradition for many Rhode Islanders. We’re always looking for opportunities to get people outside, and we hope that you’ll join us at Fishermen’s Campground while exercising and connecting with nature.”

The public is encouraged to participate in the ~1-mile self-guided loop hike on stroller-friendly paths and learn about the history of Fishermen’s Memorial. The walk will be held rain or shine; please dress accordingly. Commemorative pins are available for participants while supplies last.

A food truck will be on site with refreshments available for purchase.

Holiday Lights Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo Grab the family and head to Roger Williams Park Zoo through Jan. 4, from 5 – 9:30 p.m., for its annual Holiday Lights Spectacular – an all new walk-through experience featuring a dazzling light display throughout the zoo featuring larger-than-life displays of more than 1.5 million lights.  Bundle up, grab an adult beverage, hot chocolate, or roast some s’mores and stroll through 40 acres of illuminated pathways.

Reserve tickets in advance online. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for children ages 2-12. 5-9:30 p.m., Roger Williams Park Zoo, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence. WEATHER POLICY — The Holiday Lights Spectacular is open rain or shine. In the case of light to moderate rain or snow, the show will be open; there are no refunds.  Please check the website or visit Facebook for updates.

Warwick Weekend Events Friday:

Ugly Sweater Night Greenwood Credit Union City Hall Plaza, 3275 Post Rd, Warwick, RI, will host a Neon Night Friday at the skating rink. So borrow Neon oranges, sun-burst yellows, electric blues. Plaids that clashed on purpose. Stripes that dare you to look away. Go crazy, who glows or glares the most wins!
Each skate session a winner will be chosen. The winner will receive 2 free general admissions passes.
There will be FREE glow sticks given to the first 100 people at the 4 p.m.,  6 p.m. and 8 p.m. sessions
