WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police were called to 45 Fresno Road Feb. 12 at 1:41 a.m. for a report of three masked men in the garage, catching and charging them for a black Ford F-150 theft from Avis Rental.

Officer Michael Giorgio, one of three officers called to the address, reported they were asked to look for three men wearing face masks who had stolen a black Ford F-150 belonging to Avis Rental on the fourth level of the garage, captured on closed circuit television surveillance of the area. The three men were now attempting to exit the garage.

After arriving at the intersection at about the same time as officer Charles Vella in his cruiser, Giorgio reported they spotted the trio running north on Glenham Avenue, then north on Imera Avenue. One of the men turned east onto Coronado Road as two continued north.

Vella followed the man running on Coronado Avenue, catching him after he fell in a parking lot as he attempted to get up and continue running, according to the officer’s report. Officer Kristopher Orellana intercepted the man as he tried to get up and Vella assisted in subduing the man, who refused to give up his hands so the officers could handcuff him. Vella reported he struck the man in the shoulder three times with his fist, after which the man allowed himself to be restrained. He was later identified as Antonio Wood, 35, of 73 Shaw Ave., Cranston, RI.

Giorgio followed the other two masked men, passed them and exited his cruiser, instructing them to stop and lay down on the ground. As he handcuffed one, Officer David Waddington approached and handcufffed the other.

They were later identified as Elton B. Goncalves, 27 of 72 Plenty St. Apt. 2, Providence, RI and Kyle A. Spencer, 30, of 72 Plenty St., Providence, RI. All three were transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where they were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, and felony conspiracy in the Ford F-150 theft.

Wood and Gonsalves were also each charged with resisting arrest.
