COVENTRY, RI — A semi roIlover and tipped trailer on  Rte. 95N in the area of Coventry/West Warwick blocked both lanes, backing up traffic for miles today about 1:30 p.m.

At least one other crash on the northbound end of the highway has further tied up traffic, with motorists reporting standstill conditions on the route as of 3:30 p.m. Albert Olsen reported there were at least seven other vehicles involved in a crash on that end of the highway. A second crash, happening at about the same time as the semi rollover, occurred near the same spot, Exit 24, on Rte. 95 south, RIDOT reported on their X.com feed:

“Crash, Left Shoulder, Left lane blocked on I-95 SB at Exit 24A (RI-2/ East Greenwich/ West Warwick) in Warwick,” RIDOT reported.

Coventry resident Cheryl Milson recorded video of the semi rollover and the resulting traffic backup at about 2 p.m.

RI State Police alerted motorists to the hazard on their X.com account: “TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 95 North is CLOSED just after Exit 21 in East Greenwich due to a multi-car crash involving a tractor-trailer truck. A detour is in place. Expect delays.”

At about 2:45 p.m. RI State Police reported:  “The left lane of Route 95 North at Exit 21 is open. Expect intermittent delays.”
