WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police report a motorcycle rider critical at Rhode Island Hospital with a head injury after a Warwick Ave. Motorcycle crash with a Toyota Camry July 3 at 9: 15 p.m.
The motorcycle rider, on a Honda CBR600, a man, suffered serious injuries, including a serious laceration to the head, despite wearing a helmet, according to Warwick Police. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Warwick Fire Rescue. The driver of the silver Toyota Camry, a woman, was also transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries suffered in the crash.
Warwick Police said speed was a factor in the Warwick Ave. motorcycle crash, and that other factors are being investigated as well.
Police report the motorcycle rider was traveling south on Warwick Avenue at a high rate of speed as he approached the intersection of Edgehill Road. The female operator of the silver sedan was traveling northbound on Warwick Avenue and attempting to take a left-hand turn onto Edgehill Rd. as the motorcycle entered the intersection.
Emergency response to and investigation of the crash prompted Warwick Police to shut down part of Warwick Avenue’s north and south lanes from Church Avenue to Lake Shore Drive.
Warwick Police asked the public to forward any additional information about the crash to Sgt. Aaron Kay of the Warwick Police Department’s Traffic Division. Kay can be reached at 1-401-468-4293 or aaron.kay@warwickri.gov
