Magaziner Secures $800K for WPD Radios, Scanners

WARWICK, RI — U.S. Representative Seth Magaziner (RI-02) joined Warwick Police and local officials at WPD headquarters Tuesday to announce he secured $800,000 in federal funding for new portable WPD radios and radio scanners.

This upgraded communications technology will replace aging equipment and help officers improve emergency responsiveness for Warwick residents.

“When Rhode Islanders are in danger, they deserve a swift response. I am pleased to deliver federal funding for the Warwick Police Department to help improve emergency response times and keep Warwick residents safe,” said Magaziner. “I will continue working to bring federal dollars home so our police officers have the tools they need to do their jobs effectively and protect our hometowns.”

The funding will support the purchase of modern police radio technology, including 800MHz portable radios, tri-band portable radios, and mobile scanners for the Warwick Police Department. This equipment will replace aging devices and help officers improve emergency response for Warwick residents.

Magaziner worked closely with the Warwick Police Department and local leaders to secure the funding as part of the Commerce, Justice, and Science appropriations bill, which passed the House of Representatives on January 8, 2026, and was later signed into law.
