Hit & Run Pickup Driver Turns Self In at CPD HQ

COVENTRY, RI — Coventry Police arrested local man wanted as the Sept. 6 hit & run pickup driver suspect Monday morning after he turned himself in on a felony arrest warrant at Coventry Police Headquarters, 60 Wood St.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., David Anthony, 23 arrived at Coventry Police Headquarters, where officers processed his arrest, then transported him to 3rd District Court to be arraigned on the following charges:

• Duty to Stop in Accident Resulting in Personal Injury
• Reckless Driving/Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer – Second Offense
• Driving After Denial/Suspension/Revocation for Certain Violations
• Obstructing Officer in Execution of Duty

Anthony was then presented as a Superior Court violator and ordered to held at the ACI, pending his next court appearance on Sept. 22.

Initial hit & run pickup report Saturday

Coventry Police reported that a Coventry officer attempted a motor vehicle stop of a pick-up truck towing a trailer. The driver accelerated in an attempt to evade the officer, going westbound on RT 117.  Moments later, the truck collided with another westbound vehicle near Acres of Pine Road, according to police.

Occupants of the struck vehicle were extricated and transported to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation and later released.
The driver of the pick-up truck fled the area on foot and remains at large.
