COVENTRY, RI — Coventry Police and   were called to Child Care Plus, 963 Tiogue Ave. Coventry, RI Monday, Sept. 29, 4:46 p.m. after a car crashed into the front of the playground, causing minor injuries to five children.

The CPD and CCFD responded to the address for a report of a single car crash into the daycare facility’s playground. Police reported that children were at the playground at the time the vehicle struck large boulders in the front of the property and traveled through the fence surrounding the playground.

Five children were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The operator of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the responding officers, police reported.

South Main Street between Bielers Lane and Tiogue Avenue remains closed. The accident remains under investigation by the Coventry Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
