PROVIDENCE, RI – A Coventry man has been sentenced in Providence County Superior Court to serve life in prison at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) for multiple counts of child molestation, Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced Monday.
On Nov. 21, Superior Court Justice Brian Van Couyghen sentenced David Ouellette, 66 to life in prison plus an additional 30-year consecutive sentence full sentence with 20 years to serve. Additionally, Judge Van Couyghen issued a no contact order between the defendant and the victim and ordered the defendant register as a sex offender, attend sex offender counseling, and be subject to community supervision.
On Sept. 12, following the conclusion of a five-day trial, a jury found the defendant guilty of seven counts of first-degree child molestation.
“This victim demonstrated incredible bravery in telling her story, which allowed us to achieve justice on her behalf,” said Attorney General Neronha. “When victims feel safe in coming forward, perpetrators are held accountable, our communities become safer, and victims themselves can heal. I am grateful to the prosecutors in my office and Coventry Police Department for their great work on this difficult case.”
During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that between 1998 and 2002, the defendant sexually assaulted a juvenile female victim who was known to him.
“I want to thank the young victim in this case for exhibiting great courage throughout the investigation and prosecution of this case,” said Coventry Police Chief Benjamin H. Witt. “I thank the members of the Coventry Police Department and the Office of the Attorney General who worked hard to ensure the defendant was held accountable.”
Special Assistant Attorneys General Arthur DeFelice and Megan Andrews of the Attorney General’s Office and Detective Paul G. Pacheco of the Coventry Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
