Spectators were treated to colorfully decorated floats and marchers from the Coventry High classes, including the CHS Class of 2026, CHS Class of 2028, CHS Class of 2029, as well as representatives from future Oakers
The CHS Homecoming parade route turned off Main Street onto South Main Street on its way. Spectators were treated to colorfully decorated floats and marchers from the Coventry High classes, including the CHS Class of 2026, CHS Class of 2028, CHS Class of 2029, as well as representatives from future Oakers of Coventry elementary schools, including Hopkins Hill Elementary, Western Coventry Elementary, and Tiogue Elementary.
Coventry High organizations and clubs in the CHS Homecoming parade included The Coventry High The Navy Junior ROTC cadets, Coventry High School Band, and the Coventry High School Dance Team.
According to a 2015 story about the origins of the U.S. by Vice.com, homecoming tradition, the practice began on college campuses as a fall celebration of the first football game of the season. During the celebrations, alumni would return to their former schools, colleges and universities. Most early homecomings began at the turn of the century, but there’s debate over which school began the tradition.
