Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBSRI) invites the community to join them that Saturday, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Warwick Mall in front of Jordan’s Furniture for a special clothing donation event.
Shoppers can look for the BBBSRI Donation Truck in front of the store, drop off their unwanted clothing and linens, and help support mentoring relationships for hundreds of local youths, one bag at a time.
Back-To-School Clothes Drive highlights include:
- Street Team appearance from NOW 93.3 at Center Mall
- Music, games, on-site prizes and giveaways throughout the event
- Information on becoming or getting a Mentor
- $250 Warwick Mall Shopping Spree
Donations of unwanted clothing and linens directly fund BBBSRI’s youth mentoring programs. However, donations have been down in recent months, creating a critical funding gap that could impact the number of youths the agency can support. “Every bag we collect brings us closer to filling the truck, and every truckload allows us to continue providing mentoring to over 200 youth and case management, emergency assistance, career exploration, enrichment activities, and more over 2,500 Rhode Islanders each year,” said Jack Blatchford, CFO of BBBSRI.
The donations not only fund vital programs, they also create a more sustainable community. In 2024 alone, BBBSRI’s textile recycling efforts helped divert more than 4 million pounds of clothing and linens from the Rhode Island landfill. Whether you give one bag or help fill an entire truck, your donation makes a measurable difference for local youth, families, and the environment, according to BBBSRI.
If you can’t make it that day, donations can be dropped at any BBBSRI Donation Center, green bin, or scheduled for free home pickup. Visit www.DonateRI.org to find a location or arrange a pickup.
