COVENTRY, RI—Coventry’s Third Annual Summer Festival began with a bang with Pawtuxet Rangers cannon fire celebrating Coventry, state, and national independence and a big turnout.

Coventry’s Parks and Recreation staff were joined by WPRI Chief Meteorologist Tony Petrarca and Coventry Town Council President Hillary Lima, who welcomed Coventry residents to this year’s Summer Festival. There was a big  turnout this year, estimated at about 5,000-6,000 town residents by Parks and Recreation.

The Pawtuxet Rangers fired a cannon and two rifles, punctuating a resolution read by Lt. Brendon of The Kingston Reds, a chartered historic military command created by the Rhode Island General Assembly in 1775

“This day, June 21, 2025, marks the commencement of the Town of Coventry’s year-long commemoration and celebration of the Semiquincentennial of the American Revolution,” Brendon read from the resolution.

The crowd grew as entertainment for the event, the band, “Those Guys,” hit the stage. They performed three sets over four-hours, featuring favorites from 80s bands and artists including Journey, Billy Joel, Queen, Duran Duran, and Toto.

In between sets from the band, guests had the opportunity to visit a myriad of food trucks and local vendors. This created the perfect opportunity for small businesses to display their creations to their community.

The festival’s Kid’s Zone also offered fun games and activities for children. The Coventry Fire and Police departments were also in attendance, with tents set up at the entrance to greet the people of Coventry.

The night ended with a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” from “Those Guys,” celebrating America as the fireworks lit up the night sky, a picturesque ending to a fun-filled summer day.
