WPD Arrests Knife-Wielding Man at 23 Cedar Pond Drive

WARWICK, RI — Warwick Police took a knife-wielding man, 64, threatening his neighbors with a knife at 23 Cedar Pond Drive into custody peacefully Thursday night, transferring him to Warwick Fire rescue and ultimately Kent County Memorial Hospital.

Police charged the as-yet unidentified man with disorderly conduct. Kent County Hospital conducted a mental health assessment of the man, whom police believe was suffering a “mental health episode,” according to a statement about the incident. The man also has a affidavit warrant for 5th Degree Arson out of the Cranston Police Department.

Police called for knife-wielding man threatening neighbors

Warwick Police responded to 23 Cedar Pond Drive at about 6:26 p.m. for a report of an adult male threatening residents of the apartment complex with a knife.

At the scene, officers located a 64-year-old male who had retreated back to his apartment.  As a precaution, surrounding neighbors were evacuated for their safety. After a brief standoff, officers were able to take custody of the man without incident. He was later transported by WFD rescue to Kent County Memorial Hospital.
