The enabling legislation creating the Warwick Schools Budget Commission was requested by a resolution of the Warwick City Council in Jauary, after Picozzi proposed it upon learning that the school district faced a surprise mid-year $9 million deficit. The Warwick School Committee had reduced its projected budget deficit to $3.1 million as of Feb. 11.
