Winter Weather Advisory Today, Wind Watch Sunday

PROVIDENCE — The National Weather Service warns of weather-wracked  weekend today and Sunday, with a winter weather advisory today and high wind watch Sunday.

Several communities have announced parking bans and service cancellations, with all campuses of the Community College of Rhode Island, including Warwick’s Knight Campus on East Avenue. At 11 a.m., Warwick Police announced a parking ban on their Facebook page.

“Starting 5 p.m. this afternoon until 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon there will be a parking ban in effect. Please do not park on the streets or your vehicle will be towed and ticketed! Let’s give the clean up crews some space to work!” police advised.

The fun starts about 5 p.m. with a chance of snow, with less than an inch of accumulation likely, till later tonight, when 3-5 inches of snow is expected. Sunday, rain and freezing rain is expected, along with winds gusting as high as 22 mph.
Today’s winter weather advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. till 7 p..m. Sunday.  Today, the NWS warns of slippery road and surface conditions, including ice accumulations of a light glaze to one tenth of an inch.
A chance of snow, mainly after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Snow before 3am, then freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow and sleet between 3am and 4am, then freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet after 4am. Low around 28. East wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Sunday
Rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet before 7am, then rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain between 7am and 9am, then rain after 9am. High near 43. East wind around 11 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Sunday Night
Rain before 2am, then a slight chance of snow between 2am and 3am. Low around 24. West wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
