WARWICK, RI — The WPD SWAT team entered a Blake Street home at 9:30 a.m., reporting an armed man arrested after a 12:30 a.m. 911 domestic violence call and hours of fruitless negotiations.
Early Monday, Oct. 6, Warwick Police responded to 52 Blake Street for a domestic disturbance, reported by an adult female living there calling 911. The woman told police her brother was “being belligerent and had her firearm.” Upon arrival, the female caller and two other residents exited the residence at officers’ request. The man refused to exit with them, and he was believed to be in possession of the firearm. This man, whom police have not identified, is known to the police and is prohibited from possessing a firearm, according to a statement about the arrest.
Warwick Police deployed its SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams to the address. The man continued to refuse to exit the residence voluntarily despite a lengthy dialogue between the male and police personnel via telephone.
After the dialogue and other methods failed to resolve the matter, SWAT personnel entered the home at approximately 9:30 a.m. and arrested the man, who had the firearm in his possession when taken into custody.
Police report their investigation is active, and charges are pending. Police stated they will release more details once the investigation is “substantially complete”.
