Stolen Car Stakeout Bears Fruit
Orellana was one of multiple officers set up on or near Post Road in an attempt to intercept the SUV after police noted its recent activity on Post Road and the WPD FLOCK traffic surveillance system alerting them that it was a stolen vehicle. The vehicle had been captured by the FLOCK camera at Post Road and Wendell Road (South) multiple times in the past few days at approximately 5:45 a.m., according to the officer’s report.
Orellana ran a check of the registration, confirming it reported stolen by the New York Police Department. He attempted a traffic stop at the Walmart at 840 Post Road but the driver continued south. Orellana was able to see the driver looking at him through the side view mirror as the chase continued for about a half a mile before the SUV driver stopped in front of the Fairfax Village Apartments at 900 Post Road.
Four other officers arrived to assist Orellana, who ordered the driver to roll down the vehicle’s windows and exit the SUV. The driver stood with hands on head, and backed to Orellana’s position, where the officer handcuffed the man, later identifying him as Xianglong Pei, 41, of Bayside, New York.
Orellana arrested Pei and transported to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, Warwick, RI, where he was charged for possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The SUV was taken from the street by She’s Towing.
