CPD Search for Sept. 6 Hit & Run Pickup Driver

COVENTRY, RI — Coventry Police are searching for the driver of a hit & run pickup driver towing a trailer who fled a traffic stop, crashing with another car near Acres of Pine Road on Rte. 117 Saturday.

Following a CPD investigation, a signed felony arrest warrant has been issued for David Anthony, 23,
with a last known address of 220 Skunk Hill Rd., Hope Valley, RI.

Anthony is facing the following charges:

• Duty to Stop in Accident Resulting in Personal Injury
• Reckless Driving/Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer – Second Offense
• Driving After Denial/Suspension/Revocation for Certain Violations
• Obstructing Officer in Execution of Duty

Initial hit & run report Saturday

Coventry Police reported that a Coventry officer attempted a motor vehicle stop of a pick-up truck towing a trailer. The driver accelerated in an attempt to evade the officer, going westbound on RT 117.  Moments later, the truck collided with another westbound vehicle near Acres of Pine Road, according to police.

Occupants of the struck vehicle were extricated and transported to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation and later released.
The driver of the pick-up truck fled the area on foot and remains at large. This investigation remains active by officers and the Coventry Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit.
