WARWICK, RI — Officer Ryan Lancaster was on patrol on Metro Center Boulevard Dec. 28 at 11:03 p.m. headed to the intersection with Greenwich Avenue when he saw a woman in black stumbling across the intersection, nearly walking into a truck trailer.

The woman, later identified as Cassandra Foran, 25, of 72 Cambridge St., Worcester, MA, was unsteady on his feet, slurring her words, and exhibited bloodshot eyes, according to the officer’s report. When asked for ID, the woman said she didn’t have any, and gave what was later determined to be a fake name. She seemed nervous, and when Lancaster asked what was wrong, she said she was worried about a possible warrant for her arrest on a narcotics charge in Massachusetts.

A check of the name the woman had given Lancaster turned up records showing a woman who was too short to be the pedestrian. A check of her purse turned up four white pills, identified as aspirin and hydrocodone, the latter a schedule 2 controlled substance.

Lancaster arrested her for possession of hydrocodone, and transported her back to Warwick Police Headquarters, 99 Veterans Memorial Drive, where fingerprint records allowed him to identify the woman as Foran.

Lancaster also charged Foran with obstructing an officer. She was also found to be wanted on a warrant for possession of illegal drugs from the Massachusetts Parole Board.
