Gaspee Days 5K Foot Race

June 8 @ 9:30 am - 10:00 am

Enjoy the excitement of running the Gaspeee Days 5K before a pre-assembled cheering crowd in anticipation of the Annual Gaspee Days Parade!

More than 1,600 runners each year flock to participate in this exciting event along the Parkway’s famed red, white, and blue road stripe. Challenge yourself to place a record among our top runners and win a prize or just do it for the fun – either way, you are supporting one of the area’s favorite community events, as all proceeds support funding the annual Gaspee Days Parade.

Following the same route as the annual parade it proceedes along Narragansett Parkway, the Allen & Edna W. Brown 5K Memorial Foot Race, or Gaspeee Days 5K, is the first big-crowd part of the celebration that  essentially shuts down the village of Pawtuxet for three hours. Organizers recommend getting into Pawtuxet by 8 a.m.; parking after that is hit-or-miss.

The race starts at 9:30 AM sharp on Broad Street at Chiswick Road, Cranston, RI. The course spans 5K (3.1 miles) and was bicycle calibrated by Ray Nelson. It runs south on Broad Street into Warwick onto Narragansett Parkway then turns at General Hawkins Drive and returns north. The race finish line is just past the parade reviewing stand at Rhodes Place. Timing and results are coordinated by Spitler Race Systems. Due to the timing of the Parade, which immediately follows the 5K, the race has a strict cut-off time of one hour. You must be able to complete the 5k distance within this timeframe.

Safety first

Due to the limited space available and volume of people gathered, NO dogs, bikes, or strollers are allowed in the Gaspee Days 5K. Participants are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from wearing outfits or carrying items, including flyers, flags, banners, or signs, that could potentially obstruct the view of other race participants or injure people in the crowded parade audience. NO objects of ANY kind may be handed, thrown, sprayed, or otherwise distributed to spectators.

Pre-Race Bib Pick Up

Race organizers will be hosting a bib pick-up event on Wednesday, June 5 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Aspray Boat House.

This is our biggest race yet, so beat the race-day crowds by checking in early. Pick up your bib and shirt. You MUST bring a copy of your photo ID. If you’re checking in for someone else, please have a copy of their photo ID (can be a text picture of the photo ID). Please have your QR registration code ready to be scanned when you arrive

Bib pick up begins at 7:30 AM and closes at 9:00 AM at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center, Broad Street & Rhodes Place, Cranston, RI. NO CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED ON RACE MORNING. All runners must be registered online (see here).

The Gaspeee Days 5K is one of several events throughout the year, culminating a long weekend in June starting Saturday with the foot race. The events celebrate Rhode Island’s lead role in the Revolutionary War, “The First Blow for Freedom,” in particular,  the 1772 burning of the HMS Gaspee by a daring band of Rhode Islanders from Pawtuxet Village.
